Pricing — what to budget

Indicative pricing for India routes (every quote itemised in writing):

  • Excess baggage shipments — from RM 3,500
  • FCL 20ft container (typical 1-bedroom or 2-bedroom apartment) — RM 15,000–18,000
  • FCL 40ft container (3-bedroom house or larger) — from RM 20,000

Pricing covers professional packing, export documentation, freight, insurance, destination customs clearance, and door delivery. Indian import duties (where applicable on non-TR shipments) are payable separately.

Customs clearance at Indian ports

Indian customs requires a detailed inventory list with values, copies of your passport with stay stamps, TR application (if eligible), Bill of Lading, and shipping documents. We prepare and submit everything — you don't visit the customs office. For a detailed breakdown of what Indian customs examines and how duties are assessed, see our guide to customs regulations when returning to India. Restricted items (alcohol beyond personal limits, certain electronics, weapons of any kind, currency over USD 5,000) we'll flag during the survey so there are no surprises at port.

Indian cities served

Direct delivery: Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, Trivandrum, New Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad. Plus 1,000+ smaller cities via our partner agent network. Inland transport from port to your address is part of the door-to-door service — no extra coordination needed from you.

The four client profiles on this corridor

Returning Indian families (second or third generation): families who've been in Malaysia for 20-40+ years, returning to Kerala, Tamil Nadu, or Andhra Pradesh for retirement. These moves are typically full-container — a lifetime of household possessions, often including antiques, collections, and high-sentimental-value items. TR is almost always applicable; paperwork confirmation is the first step.

Returning Indian professionals (first generation): engineers, financial services professionals, doctors, and IT workers who came to Malaysia on assignment and are returning after 2-10 years. Smaller moves — 1-2 bedroom volume, often LCL or 20ft FCL. TR very likely applicable. Clear personal-use scope, minimal complications at customs.

Corporate transferees: professionals transferring between Indian and Malaysian offices of the same company. Move often paid by the employer; paperwork may go through HR or a relocation management company rather than directly to the individual.

Malaysian nationals moving to India: Malaysians making a permanent life decision to settle in India. No TR eligibility (TR is for Indian citizens returning home), so standard import duties apply on applicable items. We advise carefully at survey on what's worth shipping vs. sourcing in India.

What to ship vs. what to source in India

Worth shipping: quality Malaysian-made solid-wood furniture, electronics purchased in Malaysia (often lower cost than Indian equivalents at the same specification), sentimental and irreplaceable items, quality kitchen equipment and branded appliances, good mattress and bedding sets.

Better to source in India on arrival: low-cost flat-pack furniture, locally made traditional Indian furniture (often better quality and cheaper in India), white goods where Indian pricing is competitive, small appliances below RM 300-400 replacement value.

Not worth shipping: vehicles (Indian import duty is prohibitive — typically 100%+ for cars), items below RM 200 replacement cost, large quantities of food (Indian customs restricts food imports).

Transfer of Residence — the detailed eligibility and process

TR is available to Indian citizens (or Persons of Indian Origin card holders) returning to India after continuously residing abroad for 2+ years, with no single break exceeding 6 months. Documents required: Indian passport with Malaysian stay stamps, completed TR application form (we prepare this), detailed packing inventory with values (we prepare this), and Bill of Lading. The TR application is submitted to Indian customs at the entry port through our destination partner — you do not visit the customs office. Most TR applications clear without issue when documentation is complete and the 2-year requirement is clearly met. TR applicants may import: used household effects (furniture, electronics, appliances, personal items) at concessional duty rates. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions clients ask us most often before booking.

How long does shipping from Malaysia to India take?

Door-to-door FCL: Chennai 10 days, Mumbai 12, Cochin 12. Bangalore and Hyderabad via Chennai inland take 12–15 days. Delhi NCR via ICD Tuglakabad takes 18–22. Excess baggage adds 3–5 days for consolidation.

How much does it cost to move from Malaysia to India?

Excess baggage from RM 3,500. 20ft FCL RM 15,000–18,000. 40ft FCL from RM 20,000. Every quote itemised.

Can I get Transfer of Residence concession?

Yes if you've stayed in Malaysia continuously for 2+ years with max 6-month break, and you're transferring residence (not just sending goods). We handle the TR paperwork as part of standard service.

Do you handle Indian customs clearance?

Yes. We prepare and submit all documents (inventory with values, passport, TR application, BoL). You don't visit the customs office. Duties (where applicable) are payable by you per Indian law.

Which Indian cities do you deliver to?

Direct service to Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin, Delhi NCR, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad. 1,000+ smaller cities via partner network. Inland transport is included in the door-to-door service.

What can't I ship to India?

Restricted: alcohol beyond personal limits, currency over USD 5,000, weapons of any kind, certain electronics requiring import licence. We flag these during the survey.

What household items attract duty when returning to India without TR?

Without TR, Indian customs assesses duty on household electronics (TVs, audio equipment, laptops), white goods (washing machines, fridges), and some furniture at rates up to 35%. TR-eligible families import all personal household goods at concessional rates. We confirm eligibility at survey.

How far in advance should I book my India move?

At least 5-6 weeks before your required arrival date. This allows survey, packing, vessel booking (sailings are weekly from Port Klang), and the TR application lead time if applicable. For Delhi NCR moves, add 1 extra week for the longer inland leg.
