ICD Tuglakabad — how North India's customs point works
ICD Tuglakabad, in South Delhi's Tughlakabad area, is an Inland Container Depot — a dry port where FCL containers from coastal India (Nhava Sheva or Chennai) are railed or trucked for customs clearance in Delhi rather than at a coastal port. The container arrives at ICD, is held under customs seal, and clearance happens there. Our destination partner handles ICD clearance: inventory submission, TR application processing where applicable, duty assessment, and release. Typical ICD clearance: 2-4 working days for routine shipments. After clearance, the container is trucked to your Delhi NCR address and unloaded. You do not visit ICD Tuglakabad at any point.
Planning around the longer Delhi timeline
At 18-22 days door-to-door, Delhi NCR requires more forward planning than coastal Indian city moves. Practical rule: confirm your move at least 7-8 weeks before you need goods at your Delhi address. This covers survey, vessel booking and packing lead time (2 weeks), sea transit (12 days), inland to ICD (3-5 days), ICD customs clearance (2-4 days), and final delivery (1-2 days) — with a buffer for each stage. For moves timed around a specific school start or apartment handover date, build in an additional week of buffer for Diwali or fiscal year-end customs congestion if your window falls near those periods.
Delhi NCR's returning professional profile
Gurgaon (DLF Cyber City, Golf Course Road, Sohna Road) is the primary destination for returning professionals from Malaysia's banking, consulting, and tech-management sectors. Noida's Sectors 62 and 63 attract IT and product-development professionals from Cyberjaya and PJ. Central Delhi (Greater Kailash, Defence Colony, Vasant Vihar) serves returning government-sector and senior corporate profiles. The typical Delhi-bound move from Malaysia is a 2-3 bedroom volume — smaller than a full family return — and the primary client concern is timing around their joining date at the Delhi office, not shipment cost.
