What "fragile" actually means in shipping terms
Three categories with different handling. Brittle items that crack from impact — china, glassware, ceramics, mirrors, marble and granite tops.

Florette runs fragile packing as a separate discipline within our export packing process — different materials, different techniques, different inventory protocols. If half your move is fragile (collectors, large kitchen kits, art-heavy households), this is the page to read.
One project manager runs every move from survey to settled-in, with three workstreams in parallel.

Foam wrap (closed-cell, 5-10mm thickness) for direct contact with delicate surfaces — better than bubble wrap for high-value items because it doesn't transfer pressure points. Bubble wrap (10mm small-bubble for general fragile, 20mm large-bubble for outer protection layers).

China and dinnerware: each piece individually foam-wrapped, dish-pack boxes with corrugated dividers, plates packed vertically (never stacked horizontally), bowls and cups in separate cells.

Pre-packing photographs document condition. Post-arrival inspection compares against pre-packing record. Insurance claims are easy when documentation is detailed; impossible when it isn't.
Standard transit insurance through Berjaya Insurance Berhad covers loss or damage based on declared value. For high-value collections (china services worth RM 30,000+, art collections, antique pieces), separate specialist valuations and supplemental cover may be appropriate. We discuss during the survey and arrange before pack-out — not after damage occurs.
Live restoration. Authentication or appraisal. Ultra-high-value items (museum-grade pieces, items in 6-figure-plus value range) usually need specialist art handlers we coordinate with rather than handle in-house.
The questions clients ask us most often before booking.
Yes if you still have it — original boxes are designed for the specific item. If not, we use foam-fitted boxes with anti-static wrap.
Standard upright pianos yes, with custom protocols. Grand pianos and high-value vintage pianos we usually coordinate with specialist piano movers — we'll be honest during survey if it's beyond our standard scope.
Adds significantly to standard packing time. A 3-bedroom move with heavy fragile content (china service, glass collection, art) typically extends from 1 day to 2 days.
For high-value and clearly fragile items, yes — pre-packing condition photographs become part of the inventory documentation.
For standard fragile content (typical kitchen kit, some glassware, framed art), it's bundled into the move quote. For very heavy fragile loads (large art collections, valuable china collections), the additional materials and time may add line items — but transparently quoted upfront.
We strongly recommend against it. Fragile items are exactly where DIY packing fails most often, and self-packed fragile boxes are usually excluded from transit insurance.
