Export Packing for International Sea Freight
Standard household packing fails on a 30-day sea voyage. Boxes that sat in air-conditioned KL homes get hit with 25-day humidity, port loading shocks, and container temperature swings — and items packed for "moving day" arrive damaged.
Florette · Export Packing for International Sea Freight
Standard household packing fails on a 30-day sea voyage. Boxes that sat in air-conditioned KL homes get hit with 25-day humidity, port loading shocks, and container temperature swings — and items packed for "moving day" arrive damaged. Export packing is a different discipline: heavier-grade materials, ISPM 15-compliant wooden crates for fragile and high-value items, vacuum-sealed soft furnishings, container-sized box dimensions for efficient loading, and an inventory that doubles as customs documentation. Florette runs export packing as standard for every international sea-freight shipment.
What every move includes
One project manager runs every move from survey to settled-in, with three workstreams in parallel.
ISPM 15 — what it is and why it matters
ISPM 15 is the international standard for wooden packaging entering most major destinations (US, Australia, India, EU, UK, China). Wooden crates and pallets must be heat-treated or fumigated to a specified standard, then stamped with the ISPM 15 mark.

Double-walled boxes in standard sizes — small (book and dense items), medium (general), large (bulky but light), wardrobe boxes (with hanging rail). Bubble wrap (10mm and 20mm), foam wrap, foam corner protectors. Vacuum-sealed bags for textiles (clothes, bedding, soft toys) protect from humidity and reduce volume. Plywood crates built on-site to dimension for: paintings and mirrors (sandwich-style), sculpture and 3D art (custom internal supports), antique furniture (climate-aware lining), high-value electronics (anti-static lining + foam). Stretch wrap and furniture pads for protection against vibration and abrasion.
How long export packing takes
Typical 1-bedroom apartment: half-day with a 2-3 person crew. 2-bedroom: full day, 3-4 person crew. 3-bedroom or larger: 1-2 days, 4-6 person crew. Time also depends on the proportion of fragile items — heavy fragile loads (large art collections, fine china services, antique furniture) extend the window because each piece needs custom protection.
Inventory and documentation
Every export pack-out generates a written inventory: box number, room of origin, content category (kitchen, bedroom-master, lounge, etc.), and content summary. A copy is stamped and signed at pack-out, photographed for the digital record, and provided to the client before container sealing. The inventory is what destination customs uses for clearance — accuracy matters because mistakes here cause border delays.
Insurance and value declaration
Berjaya Insurance Berhad transit cover bundled. Value declaration done at pack-out — we recommend declared value matching destination replacement cost (a sofa worth RM 4,000 in KL might cost RM 8,000 in Sydney). Higher declared value means proportionally higher payout if loss or damage occurs. Items needing separate specialist cover (jewellery, fine art over a threshold) flagged at pack-out.
Frequently asked questions
The questions clients ask us most often before booking.
Can I pack myself and just have you ship?
Self-packed boxes are usually excluded from standard transit insurance because we can't verify packing quality. Some self-packed shipments can be insured at extra premium with prior approval. Most clients let us pack to keep insurance simple and the move risk-free.
What's the difference between household packing and export packing?
Materials, box dimensions, and inventory rigor. Export packing uses heavier double-walled boxes, ISPM 15 wood, vacuum bags for textiles, and detailed customs-grade inventory. Household packing is lighter and adequate for 4-5 hour moving-truck journeys, not 30-day sea voyages.
Do you use ISPM 15 crating?
Yes — for every export move where wooden materials are needed. Non-compliant wood is refused at most major destination ports. We source from certified suppliers and provide stamped photographs as part of the documentation pack.
How is fragile packing handled within export packing?
Plywood crates built on-site to dimensions. Foam-lined for paintings and mirrors. Custom internal supports for sculpture and 3D items. Climate-aware lining for antique furniture. Anti-static lining for high-value electronics.
Is the inventory list given to me?
Yes — before container sealing. Stamped, signed, photographed digital copy. The list serves three purposes: your reference, customs documentation, insurance documentation.
Are export packing materials extra cost?
Bundled into the international move quote. You don't see "ISPM 15 crate fee" or "double-wall box surcharge" line items — they're in the headline price.
