Common European destinations

Germany — major destinations Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf. Strong expat corridor for engineering and pharma professionals.

France — Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nice, Bordeaux. Mix of corporate transferees and lifestyle migrants.

Netherlands — Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Eindhoven. Major expat hub with strong connection to Malaysia.

Spain — Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Málaga. Lifestyle migration plus corporate relocations.

Italy — Milan, Rome, Florence, Naples, Turin.

Belgium — Brussels (EU institutions), Antwerp, Ghent.

Plus Switzerland (Zurich, Geneva, Basel — non-EU but routed via the same ports), Austria (Vienna, Salzburg), Portugal (Lisbon, Porto), Ireland (Dublin via UK or direct), and across Eastern and Central Europe.

Pricing — what to expect

European routes price by volume and final destination. Indicative ranges: 20ft FCL to Western Europe RM 24,000-32,000. 40ft FCL RM 35,000-45,000. Eastern European destinations slightly higher due to inland distance. LCL and groupage available for shipments under 15 cbm at significantly lower cost. We quote inclusive of port-to-door delivery — no separate "inland delivery" charge.

Insurance and risk

All Risk transit insurance via Berjaya Insurance Berhad covers the full route from Malaysian packing through European delivery. Coverage based on declared value. For high-value items typical in expat European moves (artwork, antiques, fine furniture, wine collections), separate valuations and specialist cover can be arranged.

EU customs — country-specific notes

Germany: household effects for incoming residents qualify under Übersiedlungsgut (personal-effects import relief). ZOLL documentation handled through our Hamburg and Rotterdam partner agents. Strong corporate route for engineering, automotive, and pharma sector professionals.

Netherlands: significant connection to Malaysia through Shell, Unilever, and Dutch multinational offices. Dutch customs relief (vrijstelling) for incoming residents is well-documented; Amsterdam, The Hague, and Eindhoven are our most common Dutch destinations.

France: duty-free household-effects import for incoming residents who've lived outside France for 12+ months. Documentation submitted to French customs via our Antwerp partner. Paris and Lyon are most common.

Switzerland: non-EU but routed via the same ports. Swiss BAZG customs runs its own personal-effects relief (Übersiedlungsgut) separately from EU rules. Our Zurich, Geneva, and Basel partner agents handle this regularly — Switzerland is one of our more active European routes given its concentration of financial services and pharmaceutical employers.

European moving seasons — timing your shipment

Summer (June-August) is Europe's peak relocation period — school-year timing drives family moves, academic-year timing drives professionals in education and research. Port congestion at Rotterdam and Hamburg is measurably higher in July-September, and inland delivery scheduling competes with higher carrier demand across the continent. If you're moving to Germany, Netherlands, or France for a September start date, book your survey by April-May and target a June-July vessel departure. Leaving the survey until August for a September move is the single most common planning mistake on the Europe route — vessel slots and delivery crew availability tighten sharply in the peak window.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions clients ask us most often before booking.

How long does shipping from Malaysia to Europe take?

FCL: Rotterdam 20-24 days, Hamburg 22-26 days, Antwerp 22-26. Onward inland 3-7 days for Western Europe, 5-10 for Southern, 7-12 for Central/Eastern Europe. LCL and groupage add 5-10 days for consolidation.

Do I pay EU import duty on household goods?

Returning Goods Relief or national equivalents typically exempt household effects for incoming residents. Conditions: 12+ months residence outside EU, items owned 6+ months, personal use only. Each EU country implements differently — partner agents handle country-specific paperwork.

Which European port is best for my destination?

We choose based on routing — Rotterdam for Netherlands and Western Europe, Hamburg for Germany and Northern Europe, Antwerp for Belgium and France. You don't need to specify; we route for fastest delivery to your final address.

How much does it cost to ship to Europe from Malaysia?

20ft FCL to Western Europe RM 24,000-32,000. 40ft RM 35,000-45,000. LCL and groupage cheaper for smaller shipments. Eastern European destinations marginally higher due to inland distance.

Can you handle wine collections, art, and antiques?

Yes — separate valuation and specialist crating for high-value items. EU customs has specific rules for art and antiques; our partner agents handle the documentation.

Is the move insured for the full route?

Yes — All Risk transit cover via Berjaya Insurance Berhad covers Malaysia packing through European inland delivery. Standard exclusions apply.

Can you move to Switzerland from Malaysia through the same route?

Yes — Switzerland is non-EU but routed via Rotterdam or Hamburg and onwards inland. Swiss customs (BAZG) has its own 'Übersiedlungsgut' relief procedures for incoming residents. Our partner agents in Zurich, Basel, and Geneva handle this regularly.

What documentation does my EU country require for duty-free import of household goods?

Requirements vary by country. Core documents common to most: passport with stay stamps showing 12+ months abroad, packing inventory, completed national customs relief form (form varies by country), lease or purchase agreement for the European address. We confirm country-specific requirements at booking.
