Why collectors and galleries choose us

Built for fragile, irreplaceable, high-value cargo

Custom crates, conservation-grade materials, climate awareness, and declared-value insurance — the operational layer fine art actually needs.

Bespoke wooden crates

Plywood crates built on-site to exact dimensions — no off-the-shelf box that almost fits. Structural protection, not flex.

Climate & humidity control

Reefer containers, climate-aware lining, and 1,000 sq ft of climate-controlled warehouse space at each Malaysian facility.

Conservation handling

Acid-free wrap for paintings, works on paper, photographs and archival documents. Foam blocking and gloves throughout.

Declared-value insurance

Separate art transit cover with pre-shipment valuations through Berjaya and specialist underwriters — not generic household replacement-cost cover.

What we cover

What every fine art move includes

One project manager runs every move from condition report to post-move recheck, with three workstreams in parallel.

What 'fine art handling' actually involves

Custom plywood crates built on-site to exact dimensions — no off-the-shelf box that almost fits. Acid-free wrapping materials for paintings, works on paper, photographs, and archival documents (acidic materials cause discolouration over time, particularly in tropical humidity).

Custom crating Custom crating — what it looks like

Custom crating — what it looks like

Plywood is the standard for high-value art crating because it doesn't flex like cardboard, doesn't shed splinters or dust like rough timber, and provides actual structural protection against impact.

Insurance & valuations Insurance — why you need separate valuations

Insurance — why you need separate valuations

Standard household transit insurance covers replacement cost. For fine art and antiques, replacement cost is the wrong metric — a 1920s lithograph isn't replaceable at any cost.

How it works

From condition report to post-move recheck

Five stages, one project manager. The same timeline whether it's a single canvas or a gallery-level collection.

  1. 1

    Condition report

On-site inspection with photographic record of every piece — provenance notes, dimensions, existing marks, fragility flags.

  2. 2

    Crate design & build

Custom plywood crates built on-site to exact dimensions. Acid-free wrap, foam blocking, climate-aware lining for humidity-sensitive pieces.

  3. 3

    Climate-controlled transport

Reefer containers or air freight as the piece requires. CITES documentation, customs valuations, and art-experienced destination clearing.

  4. 4

    White-glove install

On-site uncrate, position, and install. Gallery hang, plinth setup, or collector-residence placement — by the same crew that crated origin.

  5. 5

    Post-move condition recheck

Photographic recheck against the origin report. Signed sign-off issued to the owner and the insurance underwriter on completion.

Gallery & collector moves

Galleries, private collectors, and exhibitions

Florette Relocation provides specialist art handling — custom plywood crates built to size, acid-free wrapping materials, climate-aware lining for humidity-sensitive pieces, and separate insurance valuations for high-value collections. We've shipped paintings, sculpture, antique furniture, and gallery collections internationally and locally — studio-to-gallery transfers within KL, exhibition logistics for short-term shows, and collection consolidations for private collectors moving between properties.

Service detail

International shipping for art collections

Air freight for time-sensitive shipments (gallery exhibitions, auctions, dealer transfers) — faster transit, less environmental exposure, but premium cost. Sea FCL for collections — climate-controlled containers (reefer) where needed for temperature-sensitive pieces. Customs documentation for art is more complex than for household goods: country-specific art import rules, CITES documentation if any materials are CITES-listed (ivory, certain exotic woods, tortoiseshell), customs valuations, and proof of provenance. We coordinate with destination clearing agents experienced with art shipments.

Local moves for galleries, collectors, and exhibitions

Studio-to-gallery transfers within KL. Exhibition logistics for short-term shows — pickup, transport, on-site installation support, post-exhibition return. Collection consolidation for collectors moving between properties. Long-term storage in our climate-controlled warehouse space (1,000 sq ft of climate-controlled at each of our two warehouses) for items not on display.

What we handle and what we don't

Handle: paintings (oil, watercolour, mixed media, acrylic), works on paper, photographs, sculpture (small to mid-size), antique furniture, mirrors, glassware, marble and granite tops, ceramics and porcelain, decorative objects, archival documents, books and manuscripts. Not handle in-house: live restoration (we don't do conservation work), authentication or appraisal (we work with appraisers but don't certify ourselves), monumentally large sculpture requiring specialist rigging beyond our crew capacity. For these we coordinate with specialist partners but flag them upfront.

Storage between moves or for collections

Climate-controlled space in our two Malaysian warehouses for short-term and long-term storage. Standard storage RM 35 per cbm per month; climate-controlled at premium for art and sensitive items. Bonded warehouse status at our 10,000 sq ft Klang facility for art shipments awaiting export or import customs clearance.

What clients say

Curator-grade, collector-trusted

Representative feedback from the gallery and private-collection clients we work with.

Every canvas was crated on-site to its own dimensions, condition-reported with photographs, and rechecked at destination. The recheck step is what we ask for — and what most movers won't do.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions collectors, curators, and gallery owners ask most often before a fine art engagement.

How is fine art packing different from household packing?

Custom-built plywood crates rather than cardboard boxes. Acid-free materials for archival items. Climate-aware lining for humidity-sensitive pieces. Detailed condition reports with photographs. Separate insurance valuations through specialist underwriters.

Can you arrange specialist art insurance?

Yes — separate art transit cover with pre-shipment valuations. Underwriter selection depends on collection value and routing; we can recommend or work with your existing insurer.

Do you handle international art shipments?

Yes — air freight for time-sensitive, sea FCL for collections, including CITES documentation, customs valuations, and coordination with art-experienced destination clearing agents.

Can you store fine art collections?

Yes — climate-controlled space in both KL and Klang warehouses. Short-term and long-term options. Bonded status at Klang facility for items awaiting customs clearance.

Do you do exhibition logistics?

Yes — pickup from origin, transport, on-site installation support during gallery setup, post-exhibition return. Common for short-term shows and travelling exhibitions.

What about authentication or appraisal?

Not in-house. We work with qualified art appraisers and can introduce you, but we don't issue authentications or valuations ourselves. Pre-shipment valuation by a qualified appraiser is required for specialist insurance cover.
