Florette · Movers from Malaysia to Singapore

The Malaysia-to-Singapore corridor is one of the most active expat routes anywhere in Southeast Asia — driven by professionals migrating north for tax and lifestyle reasons, families relocating for school placement, and corporate transferees moving between regional offices. Florette Relocation runs door-to-door service from anywhere in Malaysia (KL, JB, Penang, the wider Klang Valley) to anywhere in Singapore. Two routing options — fast road freight via the Causeway or Tuas Second Link, or sea freight via Port Klang to Singapore for larger volumes — with Singapore customs handled by partners experienced with the daily Malaysia-Singapore traffic.

What we cover

Our Malaysia → Singapore workstream

A single project manager runs every move — survey to settled-in — with three workstreams running in parallel.

Why this route is Why this route is structurally simpler — and where it still goes wrong

Why this route is structurally simpler — and where it still goes wrong

Malaysia to Singapore is the easiest international route we operate. Geographic proximity (4-5 hour drive from KL, 1 hour from JB), shared customs framework simplification, English-speaking customs at both ends, and decades of cross-border trade infrastructure.

Singapore customs and Singapore customs and import duty

Singapore customs and import duty

Singapore Customs allows household effects to be imported duty-free for incoming residents holding a valid Employment Pass, S-Pass, Long-Term Visit Pass, or Permanent Residence, where goods are for personal use and not on Singapore's restricted list. Chewing gum and e-cigarettes are prohibited in Singapore entirely — remove before packing. Personal effects qualify for GST relief under Singapore's customs exemption framework.

Cities and areas served

Singapore: all districts including the major expat areas — Orchard, River Valley, Holland Village, Tanglin, Bukit Timah, Newton, Novena, the East Coast (Marine Parade, East Coast Park, Katong), Sentosa Cove, and the newer expat clusters around Bedok, Tampines, and Buona Vista. CBD condos. Landed properties in Districts 9, 10, 11.

Malaysia origin: KL, Klang Valley (Petaling Jaya, Subang, Shah Alam, Cyberjaya, Putrajaya), Johor Bahru and surrounds (most efficient origin given proximity), Penang (transit via KL or direct sea freight), and across Peninsular Malaysia.

Pricing — what to expect

Road freight for typical apartment moves: KL to Singapore 1-bedroom RM 4,500-7,500. 2-bedroom RM 7,500-12,000. 3-bedroom RM 12,000-18,000. JB to Singapore approximately 30-40% lower due to short distance. Sea freight FCL only economic for 30+ cbm shipments. Every quote itemised.

Why we run this route weekly

Singapore is a top destination for our corporate clients with 25+ Fortune-500 engagements — banking and financial services HR teams, regional headquarters relocations, and individual executive moves. Most weeks we have multiple shipments running this corridor, which means: predictable timing, established Singapore-side partner relationships, and pricing that reflects route efficiency rather than one-off premium.

Causeway vs. Tuas — how we choose routing

Our default is whichever checkpoint clears fastest for your specific move date and time. Causeway (Johor-Woodlands) tends to be faster on weekday mornings but congests badly on Friday evenings, eve of public holidays, and school-holiday Fridays. Tuas Second Link is less congested and better suited for West Singapore addresses (Jurong, Buona Vista, Tuas). For Saturday moves — our most common slot — we default to Tuas. For Tuesday to Thursday mornings, Causeway is typically faster. We monitor real-time border conditions and have used both links for years on this corridor.

From survey to Singapore delivery — the process

Survey at your Malaysia address: Monday-Tuesday, 1-2 hours. Written quote: within 24 hours. Packing: Friday afternoon. Transport and border crossing: Saturday morning, typically 1-2 hours at the checkpoint on non-peak days. Singapore delivery: Saturday afternoon or evening. Most 1-2 bedroom moves are complete — goods at your Singapore address — by Saturday evening. 3-bedroom-plus moves may extend into Sunday. We agree a specific delivery window at booking, not an open-ended day.

Items that commonly cause issues at the Malaysia-Singapore border

From Malaysia: food products of any kind must be declared (fresh produce, meat, and processed food will be stopped and confiscated), plant material and soil, medications without prescription documentation in quantity. From Singapore's side: chewing gum and e-cigarettes are prohibited in Singapore entirely — remove before packing. Large quantities of alcohol exceeding the 3-litre personal-import allowance need to be declared with applicable duties paid. We conduct a pre-move briefing on prohibited and declarable items so your shipment doesn't get held at the border. For pet relocation to Singapore, we coordinate with specialist partners for the full AVS Pet Pass and National Parks Board process — timing aligned with your household move.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The questions clients ask us most often before booking.

How long does Malaysia to Singapore moving take?

Road freight: KL to Singapore typically same-day or 24-48 hours including border. JB to Singapore same-day. Sea freight: 5-7 days plus 2-3 days customs.

Should I use road or sea freight?

Road freight for most household moves. Sea freight only economic for very large volumes (40ft container loads) or when consolidating with other Asia-Pacific shipments.

How much does it cost to move from Malaysia to Singapore?

KL to Singapore by road: 1-bedroom RM 4,500-7,500, 2-bedroom RM 7,500-12,000, 3-bedroom RM 12,000-18,000. JB to Singapore 30-40% lower.

Do I pay duty on household goods to Singapore?

No, if you hold a valid Singapore visa (EP, S-Pass, LTVP, PR), goods are for personal use, and items are not on Singapore's restricted list. GST exemption applies.

What's restricted in Singapore?

Chewing gum, e-cigarettes/vaping equipment (illegal), unapproved medications, weapons, politically sensitive material. Pets need AVS Pet Pass via separate specialist pet relocator process.

Can you handle border timing — peak periods, holidays?

Yes. We avoid Friday evening Causeway peaks, schedule around Singapore and Malaysian public holidays, and have alternate Tuas Second Link routing if Causeway is congested. Routine after years on this corridor.

Can I ship a car from Malaysia to Singapore?

Yes for road freight — however cars entering Singapore face significant Additional Registration Fee (ARF) and COE costs making most vehicle imports uneconomic. We'll advise at survey. Motorcycles and classic vehicles are different cases.

What if my Singapore apartment isn't ready when goods arrive?

We can arrange Singapore-side storage with our destination partner for 1-4 weeks while your property becomes available. Short-term storage is quoted separately. Most clients prefer to time goods arrival within a few days of property handover to avoid storage costs.
