What you can and cannot ship to UK
Generally allowed: household furniture, clothing, books, kitchen items, electronics, personal effects, used wood furniture (UK doesn't have Australia/NZ-style biosecurity).
Restricted (with permits or declarations): tobacco beyond duty-free limits, alcohol beyond duty-free limits, weapons, certain medications, some plant material. Strictly prohibited: certain food items (specific meat and dairy products from outside EU need declarations), endangered species products (CITES applies), counterfeit goods.
The UK doesn't run AQIS-style biosecurity inspections, so the export-packing process is less restrictive than Australia or NZ — but ToR1 paperwork must be correct.
Cities served
Direct delivery via partner network: London (all areas including outer suburbs), Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast.
Smaller cities and rural locations served via inland transport — typically 3-7 days from port.
Pricing — what to expect
UK routes price by volume and final destination. Indicative ranges: 20ft FCL London RM 26,000-32,000. 40ft FCL London RM 38,000-46,000. Northern England, Scotland, and N. Ireland slightly higher due to inland distance. We quote inclusive of port-to-door delivery.
Vehicle and pet shipping to UK
Vehicle shipping to the UK: RHD-friendly (drives on the left like Malaysia), so Malaysian-spec cars don't face the compliance complications of Australia or NZ. Type approval and MOT are still required for older vehicles. Vehicle shipping is feasible if the car is high-value or specialty.
Pet relocation to the UK requires rabies-free import documentation, ISO microchip, and minimum 21-day waiting period after rabies vaccination. Specialist pet relocator handles the process; Florette PM coordinates timing alongside the household move.
ToR1 — the step-by-step process
Step 1: Eligibility check at survey — 12+ months continuously outside UK, items owned and used for 6+ months, arriving within 12 months of goods, personal use only. Step 2: We submit the ToR1 application to HMRC with required documentation, typically 3-4 weeks before vessel departure. Step 3: HMRC issues approval — typically 2-3 weeks. Step 4: Goods depart Port Klang. Step 5: Approval in hand before vessel arrives at Felixstowe or Southampton. Step 6: UK customs clears goods without import VAT charge. Without ToR1, HMRC levies import VAT at 20% on declared household-goods value — on a full container, this can be £8,000-12,000 or more. ToR1 is not a formality to consider skipping.
LCL and groupage for smaller UK moves
If your shipment is under 15-18 cubic metres, a full 20ft container is economically inefficient — you're paying for space you don't use. Less-than-container-load (LCL) or groupage consolidates your goods with others on the same Port Klang to UK sailing. Total cost for an LCL move is typically 30-40% lower than a full container for the same volume. Transit time adds 5-10 days for consolidation and deconsolidation at each end. Most 1-bedroom moves, studio apartments, and excess baggage shipments (5-15 cbm) are better served by LCL. We quote both options and recommend the right one for your volume.
The Malaysia-UK client profile
Four main types on this route: Malaysian nationals with British citizenship or Indefinite Leave to Remain returning permanently or after years in Malaysia; Indian-origin families in Malaysia with British ties — Skilled Worker visa holders, heritage citizens, British National (Overseas) cases; international corporate transferees moving to UK regional offices (financial services, pharma, consulting); and university-connected professionals returning after working in Malaysia post-graduation. Each has slightly different ToR1 eligibility and documentation requirements — we confirm which profile applies at survey.
